Anselus is Now Mensago

Names are hard. Don’t believe me? Try coming up with a name for a thing that meets the following qualifications:

  • Unique
  • Has an available domain
  • Doesn’t translate into something offensive or awkward, like “Bite the Wax Tadpole
  • Easy to spell
  • Sounds good / marketable

Much to my dismay, I discovered a major obstacle to the project which was a hard failure on the first point: a product called ancelusDB, hosted at ancelus.com. One. Letter. Difference. My disappointment and frustration have been beyond words–not because of their product, but because of all the work needed to make the change.

When I was trying to find a name for this incredibly exciting project, I became so frustrated that I wrote a Python script to randomly generate names and pick one from the hundreds that I didn’t hate. Anselus was the result.

Mensago was also randomly generated, but it also bears a passing resemblance to the Portuguese word for ‘messenger’, mensageiro. How appropriate.

Changing the name in All The Places will take some time, so don’t be surprised if you see a bit of a mess in places until then… Pardon Our Dust.
